Anurag Basu’s latest directorial, Metro...In Dino, a sequel to the 2007 hit Life in a... Metro, opened in theatres on Friday, July 4. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, and Neena Gupta, the film had high expectations. But the opening day numbers suggest a slow start.
Day 1 Box Office Collection
The film collected ₹1.54 crore on its first day, according to early trade reports. In comparison, Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment of the Hollywood franchise, is dominating the box office with an impressive ₹5.45 crore collected by Friday afternoon alone.
Tough Competition for Anurag Basu’s Drama
While Metro...In Dino aims to target urban audiences in metro cities and multiplexes, it is struggling to compete against the Hollywood blockbuster. The Jurassic franchise continues its legacy in India — the first movie released in 1994 became the first Hollywood film to cross ₹10 crore here.
Adding to the competition is Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which has performed well in previous weeks but saw a dip on Friday, managing only ₹1.08 crore amid Jurassic World Rebirth’s dominance. Brad Pitt's F1 is also drawing audiences in significant numbers.
Mixed Buzz and Music Impact
The film’s music, composed by Pritam, hasn’t generated the buzz seen with its predecessor. Industry experts suggest that the underwhelming soundtrack and limited appeal beyond metros are affecting footfalls. However, positive word-of-mouth may help improve its performance over the weekend.
Day-wise Box Office Report
- Day 1 (Friday): ₹1.54 crore
- Total (So far): ₹1.54 crore
